#PassportToMP: Getting cozy in Buenos Aires

One of my favourite things about travelling is completely immersing myself in a new and exciting city — even if it’s just for a short time. While working remotely, I often feel more at home than when I’m fully on vacation. I spend my days doing my usual tasks and conversing with colleagues while incorporating the city into my day-to-day life. Though this “day-to-day” is far from typical — filled with much more spice, adventure and excitement.

This was the case for my recent visit to Buenos Aires where I spent three weeks as a part of Media Profile’s Work Away employee benefit. This was my third year taking advantage of this benefit, having previously visited places like Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Mexico City.

Buenos Aires, the vibrant capital of Argentina, boasts a rich tapestry of culture, history, and passion. Renowned for its tango, it's a city where elegant European architecture blends with Latin American flair. With cobblestone streets lined with lush trees, adorable cafes and beautiful murals, the town quickly sucked me in and had me asking myself “Should I move here?”

While moving may be far-fetched, I was able to get a taste of what life is like for a PR professional living in BA by visiting Identia PR, an independent agency that, like Media Profile, belongs to PRGN — the leading global network of independent PR agencies with more than 50 offices across the world.

A Day in the Life: Identia PR

Founded in Buenos Aires in 2003, Identia is recognized as one of the top agencies in Argentina. Identia offers a full range of PR, public affairs and digital services. They specialize in crisis management, media relations, social media and internal communications, working with a roster of clients across diverse sectors including government, tech, mining, oil & gas and NGOs.

The Identia PR office is located in San Nicolás (often referred to as El Centro), a bustling metropolitan area with towering stone buildings and tiled pedestrian plazas. The neighbourhood is also home to several stunning historic landmarks such as Teatro Colón and Plaza De Mayo — sights that quite literally took my breath away.

Upon my arrival to Identia, I immediately felt right at home. I was warmly greeted by the team who enthusiastically showed me around the office. It was charming, colourful and bright — the walls decorated with stunning pieces of artwork, supplied by one of the agency's co-founders, an avid art enthusiast.

We sat in the boardroom, enjoyed a late afternoon coffee and had a meeting of the minds — a round table of PR professionals from opposite hemispheres. We talked about everything from restaurants, culture and sights in Buenos Aires to the city’s political climate, economy and shifting media landscape. We discussed our clients and campaigns, office culture, benefits and what life is like day to day in both Canada and Argentina.

It was evident that despite the two agencies’ differing clients and geographical location, there were so many similarities and a strong sense of like-mindedness. It felt comfortable and close to home, despite being 10 thousand kilometres away.

Through our Work Away benefit and access to agencies worldwide through the PRGN network, we are afforded abundant opportunities to broaden our horizons and embrace diverse cultures and experiences. But it’s the home-away-from home feeling I was awarded that made this trip feel extra special - and it’s all thanks to Media Profile.
